Trump’s defence of US Diplomat linked to deadly crash ‘the most crass, insensitive comment anyone could ever make’. Jeremy Corbyn says

Jeremy Corbyn attacked President Trump’s response to the matter where a British citizen was killed in a hit and run. He said that Trump had made the most crass and insensitive comment anyone could ever make. The 19-year old Harry Dunn was killed in Northamptonshire in late August.

The case has become a matter of conflict between the US and UK as the person suspected of the hit and run is a US diplomat, with diplomatic immunity.

Anne Sacoolas, the alleged driver, was apparently driving on the wrong side of the road when Dunn was killed and has gone back to the US after specifically telling UK authorities that she does not plan to do that. The UK government has since asked Trump to take away her diplomatic immunity as it is causing difficulty for the Police to contact and question Miss Sacoolas.

On Wednesday, when Trump spoke to the press, he appeared to be defending the suspect, saying her mistake was genuine, adding that this sort of thing ‘can happen’.

These comments have been described as insensitive, clumsy, oafish and insulting by the Dunn family. Mr. Jeremy Corbyn has also condemned the comments on his visit to the site of the accident.

After his speech, the Labour leader said that America’s decision to allow Ms. Sacoolas her diplomatic immunity is unacceptable and legal action will be taken against her when it becomes possible. He also said that he was alarmed that a person had been killed in the UK and that the assailant was permitted to claim diplomatic immunity and run to the US immediately.

He also said that he knew that the family was visiting Dominic Raab, and will be pressuring the US to do their best for the delivery of justice.

If legal action could be taken in the US itself, it would have been done by now as for someone to claim diplomatic immunity in the case where another has died is impossible.
